Juneteenth Outdoor Event

The Juneteenth Outdoor Event underscores the Office of Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion’s goals through learning, education, and awareness. Materials about Juneteenth, plus literature from Blacks in Government, and 8 Changes for Racial Equality or 8CRE (pronounced “acre”) will be provided. Meditation and yoga activities will be taught by Bold Yoga D.C. There will also be poetry and spoken word from Fly Zyah, and Juneteenth-themed snacks (sample-sized tastings of Juneteenth favorites like red beans and rice) served by Artiz and Soul Food D.C.

Bold Yoga: Bold Yoga is a yoga company that promotes healing throughout the Black community. Anytime something trauma related has taken place in the community, we provide safe spaces for youth through yoga and meditation. We promote mindfulness and healthy living as a new way of life!

Fly Zyah: Fly Zyah is a groundbreaking 11-year-old emcee, student, and activist. She is proving that young people are keenly aware of the world around them and ready to stand up for what is right. Over the years, her verses have transformed from songs about riding her bike to songs about social justice issues. Most recently, Fly Zyah released, “Dear D.C.” which is a song centered around social justice issues and a situation that happened to her family on 2020 Election night.

Artiz and Soul Food D.C.: Chef Yvette Thompkins is the founder and owner of Artiz and Soul Food D.C. She is a D.C. native with roots in honest, authentic, clean Southern soul food-inspired cuisine…with an elevated twist. Her dishes are locally sourced and expertly prepared from in-season fruits, vegetables, and homegrown herbs. Sophisticated ingredients and gorgeous presentation lift the experience of comfort food consistent with the generous spirit of Southern cooking. In the spirit of Southern hospitality, Chef Yvette shares her family’s secret recipes to impress your guests with tried-and-true real soul food created with love, heart, and soul.
