Second EDI Director’s Speaker Series: Dr. Robert Winn
The National Institutes of Health (NIH) Office of Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion (EDI) invites you to join us virtually on Aug. 9, 2023, from 9-10 a.m. ET for the second event of our EDI Director’s Speaker Series. With the purpose to foster greater diversity, equity, inclusion, and accessibility, NIH and EDI aim to promote cultural awareness and provide learning opportunities for our community through this new series.
Meet our distinguished speaker, Dr. Robert Winn
Dr. Winn is the Director and Lipman Chair in Oncology of Virginia Commonwealth University (VCU) Massey Cancer Center. In addition to directing the activities of over 250 research members, including researchers and physicians from 39 departments in nine colleges and schools at VCU, Dr. Winn also manages a research laboratory at the university.
Dr. Winn shares his vision for work at the VCU Massey Center.
His current basic science research focuses on molecular mechanisms and novel therapeutic approaches for human models of lung cancer. As a pulmonologist, Dr. Winn is committed to community-engaged research centered on eliminating health disparities. Dr. Winn is a principal investigator on several community-based projects funded by NIH and the National Cancer Institute. He has received national and international acclaim for his efforts to empower underserved patient populations, improve healthcare delivery, and ensure equal access to cancer care.
Dr. Winn holds a B.A. from the University of Notre Dame and an M.D. from the University of Michigan Medical School in Ann Arbor. Dr. Winn completed an internship and residency in internal medicine at Rush-Presbyterian-St. Luke’s Medical Center in Chicago and a fellowship in pulmonary and critical care medicine at the University of Colorado Health Sciences Center in Denver.
Dr. Winn has served on the American Cancer Society Board of Directors since 2021.
