About EDI

The Mission of EDI is to help foster a space where diversity is celebrated, equity is upheld, inclusion is the norm, and accessibility is a priority, so that we can come together to advance health discovery for all.

Who We Are

EDI is a staff office within the Office of the Director that strives to protect the integrity of the EEO process and make DEIA a priority at NIH. The EDI team is comprised of knowledgeable professionals across areas of consulting, data analysis, education, federal policy, EEO, and federally identified minority strategists, enabling them to handle issues and concerns raised by the NIH population in a proficient, professional, and timely manner.

EDI serves as the NIH-wide focal point for:

  • Developing Equal Employment Opportunity (EEO) and diversity, equity, inclusion, and accessibility (DEIA) policies and programs for NIH
  • Providing leadership and guidance to the Institutes and Centers (ICs) on DEIA
  • Ensuring all NIH policies, programs, functions, and activities are in compliance with federal EEO statutes, laws, and regulations
  • Developing and managing EEO, affirmative employment, and workforce diversity management programs
  • Fostering an environment that respects the diversity of the entire workforce and provides opportunities for employees to contribute to fulfilling the NIH mission
  • Improving the outreach, recruitment, and retention of people of color, women, sexual and gender diverse people, and persons with disabilities
