National Hispanic Heritage Month
Each year, we observe National Hispanic Heritage Month from September 15 to October 15, by celebrating the histories, cultures and contributions of American citizens whose ancestry comes from Spain, Mexico, the Caribbean and Central and South America. The observation started in 1968 as Hispanic Heritage Week and was expanded in 1988 to cover a 30-day period. We are proud to recognize the countless ways in which Hispanics and Latino Americans contribute to our history and the mission of NIH.
Hispanic and Latino Investigators and Senior Scientists Project
Numerous Hispanic and Latino leaders in science and engineering have made sweeping discoveries that have driven biomedical science policy to benefit all. This project is intended to honor the work and achievements of NIH’s diverse workforce and help motivate and inspire students and postgraduates to pursue careers in science. Within their biographies and accomplishments, you will find the result of hard work, smart choices, and opportunity. The diverse experiences of these problem-solvers are critical to fostering creativity and innovation at the NIH.
