Meaningful Access to Programs and Activities.
Welcome to the NIH Language Access Services: Translation and Interpretation (LASTI) contract Portal! The Office of Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion (EDI) has collaborated with the Office of Logistics and Acquisition Operations (OLAO), to establish a contract vehicle that enables NIH’s Institutes and Centers (ICs) to secure interpretation and translation services. The goal is to help ICs remove language barriers, increase access to NIH services and programs, and meet the linguistic demands of their customers. The LASTI Portal allows requestors to access several resources, generate an automated request for services, and request technical guidance from an NIH Certified Contracting Officer (CO) or Contracting Officer’s Representative (COR). EDI is pleased to host the LASTI website portal and provide technical guidance on Language Access to ICs as needed.
About Us
The Office of Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion (EDI) firmly believes in cultivating a culture of inclusion where diverse talent is leveraged to advance health discovery. Federal agencies must take reasonable steps to ensure that Limited English Proficient (LEP) individuals have meaningful access to Federal programs and activities, in accordance with Title VI of the Civil Rights Act of 1964, Section 1557 of the Affordable Care Act, and Executive Order 13166. NIH and EDI have created the NIH Language Access Plan (LAP) in order to meet this legal obligation. The LAP establishes a mechanism for NIH ICs to ensure meaningful access to NIH administered programs and activities for the LEP community. This includes communication with the public (i.e. telephonic, electronic (internet)), access to NIH physical facilities, as well as NIH programs and activities that provide services or benefits (i.e. clinical trials) to the public.
